About Us
building friendships. fostering hope.
Coldwater is a faith-based nonprofit centered in Lee's Summit, Missouri. Our mission is to build friendships that foster hope in our community while providing food and clothing for those in need.
Our Story
History
Coldwater was birthed from the imagination of a small group of people who wondered, “What could change for the better if we grew to love others like Jesus loves us?” As this small group began to live into the calling of God’s Word to be missional and to love our neighbors, we creatively sought ways to meet new friends. This “ordinary” group of people was eager to leave the doors of the church unlocked, to offer resources without judgment, and to effectively connect with our community and their needs.
Coldwater began as a grassroots organization in 2008. That grassroots group consisted of people living out their ordinary, walking around, Lee’s Summit lives—working, raising families, and reading the Bible—not to know it, but to be changed by it. We were delighted to be a part of Jesus’ revolution of love. As we have worked hard, grown, overcome obstacles, and continue to dream of what more can be done, we know that in all things we rely on God's provisions. Jesus reminds us, “This is a large work I’ve called you into but don’t be overwhelmed by it. It’s best to start small. Give a cup of cold water to someone who is thirsty for instance. The smallest act of giving or receiving makes you a true apprentice. You won’t lose out on a thing.

Mission
Coldwater is a faith-based, 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization that serves Lee’s Summit and surrounding communities. Our mission to is to build friendships that foster hope in our community. We build those friendships and foster that hope by connecting with our neighbors and their needs. We operate a food
pantry and a clothes closet, offer emergency food during the week and provide weekend backpacks for hungry school children. During the summer months, we offer a non-competitive T-ball program (League of Smiles) and summer lunches and bar-b-que dinners to local neighborhoods.
“I must be willing to give whatever it takes to do good to others. This requires that I be willing to give until it hurts. Otherwise, there is no true love in me, and I bring injustice, not peace, to those around me.”
Mother Teresa
