Coldwater Village will provide both adequate housing and economic opportunities for adults with disabilities in eastern Jackson County. The first phase of this community will include a Clubhouse and 12 Residential Villas at a cost of $2.8 million. Future phases will address more severe disabilities. Coldwater’s goal is to fund the project through financial contributions and in-kind gifts from throughout the Greater Kansas City area. Sources will include foundations, grants, churches, businesses and individuals. Coldwater plans to break ground on phase one when it has reached $350,000.
Having their own home will bring a feeling of pride and accomplishment to these adults with disabilities. A safe, clean, encouraging environment will offer their aging parents and families a place of hope. The Clubhouse will offer a boutique store, clothes closet, food pantry, staging area for No Hungry Kids!, coffee shop, farmers market, social opportunity, fair trade store, event and administrative space for the whole community and a setting for job training and life skills development.
